Delivering Adventure

Houghton-Le-Spring District has many success stories but adventure is at the heart of what we do. From Abseiling to Zorbing, we offer over 200 different activities each year to over 200 young people, aged 10.5 to 14. Check out some of our activities below.

Football 5-a-Side Competition
A fun but also competitive league style competition.

Teams consist of between 5-7 Scouts. Two competitions are held, Under 12's and Under 15's. Winners of the under 15's event go forward to compete in the County competition.

Maclaren Shield Incident Hike Competition
Two scouts at the Maclaren Competition
The Maclaren Shield is an activity based incident hike, aimed at developing teamwork and problem solving skills. Scouts work in teams of 4-6 to navigate round a set route, stopping at checkpoints to complete challenges/exercises.

Scouts are expected to have a basic knowledge in areas of navigation, emergency aid and teamwork. The competition usually takes place over a weekend, and consists of 3 stages. (Saturday Day, Saturday Night and Sunday Day).

Beach Bonanza!
A purely fun-based evening, where scouts enjoy simple games/activities, in an un-competitive, social environment.

The night is aimed at bringing the District together and just having fun. Silly prizes and food bring the event to a close.

Everyone simply comes together and work as a scout district - it's a truly great night.
