Read this story in the Washington Star The new troop is part of 1st Fatfield Scouts and is based at Duxbury Park, Fatfield. The scout group has nearly 200 members across beaver, cub and scouts sections and all young people experience a new adventure every week. Scouts enjoy regular camps including a week-long adventure in the Scottish Borders, as well as a variety of activities from abseiling to zorbing as part of their active programme. The new troop has been made possible by new volunteers coming forward to take on leadership roles in the group. Now established, the troop will soon double in size, however, we still need more adult volunteers as there areover 100 young people waiting to join scouting locally. Georgia Cuthbert (10) a scout making her promise at the FlowRider said: ‘Flowrider is just one of the amazing activities I’ll be doing with scouts this year, we do so many different things! I can’t wait to ride the FlowRider, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone being invested on the wave before, it’s going to be a special evening.’ Mark Madden (40), a new volunteer from Washington said: ‘Volunteering as an adult in scouting is really rewarding and as well as seeing young people develop as part of our active programme, I get to take part in lots of great activities myself too, I think I’ve been looking forward to the FlowRider as much as the scouts.’ He added: ‘There’s a huge amount of support for anyone who wants to get involved and you don’t have to be available every week, there are roles to fit the time you have available to spare.’ To find out more about volunteering opportunities in Washington, please visit www.hls-scouts.org.uk/volunteer, or call 0845 300 1818. |
